Mansfield Shotokan continues to uphold the traditional style of martial arts training. We focus on teaching our students the values of respect, discipline, and self-control while positively influencing society.

We offer training in the following styles.

A vast majority of our training is based on the traditional Shotokan Karate style, with minor influences from various other styles as well.

Shotokan Karate

Shotokan Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art founded in the early 20th century. It is known for its emphasis on powerful, linear techniques and strong stances, blending physical discipline with mental focus and self-control. Training in Shotokan includes kihon (fundamental techniques), kata (forms or patterns), and kumite (sparring), offering a balanced approach to self-defense and personal development. The philosophy of respect, perseverance, and the pursuit of self-improvement are highly valued in Shotokan.

Shingitai Jujitsu

Although our training in Jujitsu is limited. Fights often devolve quickly into a wrestling match, which is why we train to feel comfortable not only standing up but on the ground as well. Students will learn self-defense techniques for a variety of situations, as well as how to fall, how to grapple with a partner, and ways to restrain an assailant.

Tae Kwon Do

While our training is more in the traditional Shotokan, we incorporate some aspects of Tae Kwon Do to help create a well-rounded fighter who can succeed in any situation.
